CULT MOVIE: BLADE RUNNER (1982)

Like so many films in this blog, this was a critical and box office failure on release: costing $27m to make, it took less than $15m in the US. But its reputation has been soaring ever since especially with the release of the director's cut, showing the full subtlety of Scott's vision. Visually stunning, this tale of a weary cop (Ford) who in the LA of 2019 has to track down four android replicants draws on film noir ( the femme fatale, the alienated hero ) and westerns like High Noon to produce something unique. One of the most influential films of the genre, even if the human story never lives up to the visual feast.
Director: Ridley Scott Cast: Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young
