THE BLACK LIST

Film buffs could argue about what constitutes a true film noir for almost as long as it would take you to watch all the movies in this genre. But this list of classic noir symptoms may help your diagnosis.
1.Dark, shadowy, contrasty images, sometimes colour but usually black and white.
2.Cynical, tough, disillusioned but likeable characters.
3.A male hero with a moral dilemma or danger to overcome.
4.A sexy femme fatale.
5.A distinctively world-weary tone, often provided by one-liners and voice narration.
6.Flashbacks.
7.No happy ending.
To simplify grossly, the essence of noir is, to quote Private Fraser from Dad's Army. "We're all doomed."
